Real Madrid 4 Almeria 2 - Cristiano Ronaldo scores, misses a penalty and gets red carded as he inspires late come back

Cristiano Ronaldo will once again make the headlines in a game that had many talking points. Real Madrid ended up victorious, winning by four goals to two in a scoreline the visitors will feel did not do them justice.

Ronaldo, making a La Liga return at the Bernabeu, lit up the game from the very beginning. His trickery and slick touches were evident for all to see and he wowed the crowd creating opportunities and linking up with his team mates well in the early stages.

On the half hour mark, all of Real Madrid's attacking industry was finally rewarded. Cristiano found himself wide after a corner and following a sublime first touch and exquisite cross, Sergio Ramos headed Real's first goal of the match.

After dominating the first period, Almeria came out of the blocks in the second half with far more desire and were rewarded. First it was Soriano who leveled the game after some good positional play, and then Uche who put the visitors in the lead with a well struck shot.

Cristiano and Real Madrid were determined to overturn the scoreline and it was Ronaldo's strike partner, Gonzalo Higuain, who equalised, sending a low drive in the corner with great precision. Cristiano then took the match by the horns, and raced clear on goal, to be brought down by the goalkeeper after rounding him. Real Madrid were awarded a penalty, which was remarkably saved by the keeper. However, Benzema was the quickest to respond and lashed home the rebound.

Cristiano then got himself on the scoresheet. Some great work on the wing saw Esteban Granero find Cristiano Ronaldo at the back post, which he converted to send the crowd wild. Cristiano, shirt in hand, expressed what can only be described as relief and delight as he celebrated.

Late on, Cristiano was involved in further drama. He had the ball near the corner flag, passed it, and was on the receiving end of an arm to the face. Ronaldo reacted by kicking the leg of the offender, which was noticed by the referee, leading to a dismissal, tarnishing the terrific performance Ronaldo had given. Overall, it was a game that Cristiano Ronaldo was y far the most outstanding player in, and it was an unfortunate way for him to end the match.
