Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo can breathe a huge sigh of relief after they edged the all-important World Cup qualifier versus Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 away from home (2-0 on aggregate).
Cristiano did not feature in either tie due to injury and it looked like it would be a very difficult game away from home in Bosnia, the deciding leg which was played on Wednesday night. The pitch was not of a standard Portugal's players are used to and it looked like a distinct advantage for the home side.
However, in what was a scrappy and toughly contested match, Portugal found a goal through Raul Meireles in the middle of the second half, driven low into the corner of the goal.
Portugal knew that an away goal would leave a very tricky situation for the Bosnians, needing a further three goals, so their plan was executed to perfection.
Portugal are now the 30th team out of 32 to qualify for South Africa. Congratulations to Cristiano and the Portugese national side. See you in South Africa.
