Cristiano Ronaldo and his Real Madrid teammates were on fine farm as the team reigned victorious, winning five goals to two against a spirited Zurich side.
The result was perhaps flattering for Madrid as they scored two last minute goals to bump up the scoreline, however coach Manuel Pellegrini will be satisfied with the way his side handled the game, particularly as it was away from home.
Madrid opened the scoring through a spectacular Cristiano Ronaldo freekick -- even though Zurich's goalkeeper Leonni could have done better.
The Madrid lead was enhanced in the first-half through Raul and Higuain goals taking the scoreline to 3-0 at half time. Zurich fought back in the second half and scored two goals to threaten Real Madrid's lead. However, Madrid stayed strong and scored a further two goals from another Ronaldo freekick - that slipped through the hands of keeper Leonni. Guti scored a terrific chipped goal at the death to secure three valuable points and a 5-2 victory.
